Kat Zhou – Ethical Design in the Tech Industry

Medieteknik Live / Open lecture in media technology with Kat Zhou – Ethical Design in the Tech Industry

Join Kat as she gives an overview of the state of the tech industry and why ethical design is more important than ever. She’ll go over the framework, which includes a redesigned design process as well as tactics to forecast the consequences of your products. She’ll also dive into manipulative design patterns and avoid implementing them while working on a product team.

Kat (she/her) is the creator of the project <Design Ethically> and a product designer at Spotify. <Design Ethically> started out as a framework for applying ethics to the design process and has now grown into a toolkit of speculative activities that help teams forecast the consequences of their products.

Through her work with <Design Ethically>, she has spoken in front of government agencies, lectured at universities, and been featured in a variety of publications. She serves on the board of advisors for the YX Foundation, a hybrid coalition-design lab focused on the intersections of AI/ML and critical race theory.

She is also pursuing a Masters degree in AI Ethics and Society at the University of Cambridge, with the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence. She lives in Stockholm with her adopted husky.
